Swept Under The Rug
Published August 11, 2017
For many years the tape of silence has been over our mouths. To speak out makes one overly sensitive, delusional, or living in the past; because the stigma is to proclaim that things have changed, “its better now than it was before.” The sweeping is still being done to push away the truth, the hurt, the trauma, the actions committed for generations. The sweeping is being done to erase a stain that is persistent in not being removed. Will they continue to sweep? Knowingly fooling themselves that slavery, segregation, (universal) genocide, could be forgotten. Ignoring the trauma, suffering, mental damage, displacement. Forever sweeping it seems; underestimating the resilience, determination for the capacity of a people that will never give up. Will never give up in proclaiming our history, telling our stories, removing the chains that have been put in place to confine. Our purpose in living free and being free in a world where it seems to be the norm to perpetuate hate towards another. Keeping sweeping; until they get the chance to sweep away the skewed perspective of hate, prejudice, racism, and oppression. Keep sweeping; till we dismantle the notion of living in a world where it is okay to perpetuate hate.
